Efforts to Resolve Jezzine Electricity Crisis

In an effort to find a radical solution to the severe electricity rationing crisis facing the Jezzine region, former Minister Hector Hajjar intensified his contacts and field visits during the week, in coordination with former MP Amal Abou Zaid and former Head of the Union of Jezzine Municipalities Khalil Harfouch, covering various stakeholders in the electricity sector.

These efforts culminated in a meeting with the Chairman of the Board and Director General of the Council of the South, Mr. Hashim Haidar, who agreed to fund the repair of the 30 MVA power transformer that has been out of service at the Bisri hydroelectric plant for over twenty days. Administrative and operational procedures began immediately, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board and Director General of the Litani River Authority, Dr. Sami Alawieh, the Vice President of the Council of the South, Rasha Abou Ghazaleh, along with council member Dr. Youssef Doughan.

In parallel, a request was submitted to the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) to install a new 40 MVA transformer to meet the future needs of all towns in the Jezzine region without exception, provided that the necessary administrative procedures commence between Electricité du Liban (EDL) and the CDR in preparation for project implementation.

For his part, Minister Hajjar expressed his gratitude to Mr. Hashim Haidar for his responsiveness and to Dr. Sami Alawieh for his active role and prompt action. He also commended the cooperation shown by EDL Board Chairman Nassib Nasr and EDL Director General Dr. Kamal Hayek, praising the responsiveness of CDR Chairman Eng. Mohammad Qabbani to the demands of the Jezzine region.
